Catheter ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that treats abnormal heart rhythms by targeting the specific areas of heart tissue causing them. Guided by the maps created during an EP study, a catheter delivers either heat (radiofrequency) or cold energy (cryoablation) to create tiny scars that block the faulty electrical pathways responsible for the arrhythmia. For many patients, ablation offers the possibility of a lasting cure — significantly reducing or even eliminating symptoms such as palpitations, and in some cases removing the need for long-term medication. Our electrophysiology team will discuss whether ablation is the right option for you and guide you through recovery.
