Cardiac Defibrillator Insertion

An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is a device that protects patients at risk of dangerous, life-threatening heart rhythms such as ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. Continuously monitoring your heart, the ICD can deliver precisely calibrated therapies — from gentle pacing to an internal shock — to restore a normal rhythm within seconds of a dangerous arrhythmia occurring. The insertion procedure is similar to pacemaker implantation and is performed under local anaesthetic with sedation. For patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest, an ICD provides round-the-clock protection and invaluable peace of mind for you and your family.
