A pacemaker is a small, sophisticated device implanted under the skin near the collarbone to treat slow heart rhythms (bradycardia). It continuously monitors your heartbeat and delivers gentle electrical impulses whenever your natural rhythm is too slow, keeping your heart beating at a safe and appropriate rate. The implantation procedure is performed under local anaesthetic with light sedation, typically takes around an hour, and most patients return home the following day. Living with a pacemaker allows the vast majority of our patients to resume their normal activities with renewed confidence, energy, and freedom from troubling symptoms.
